Siblings of Sick Needs Need Their Own TLC
Siblings of Sick Kids Need Their Own TLC” looks at the stresses that siblings of seriously ill children face. Janet Cross, of the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, says, “The sibling is often the forgotten one. We have realized that, as an industry, we need to be more sensitive to the needs of the entire family, not just the patient.” Cross heads a team of 20 child-life specialists who help families adjust when a child is very ill, and the hospital itself offers a family-friendly environment for when a child is hospitalized.
